Fowler vows to stay and fight for place

Robbie Fowler has vowed to stay on at Anfield, and fight for his place in the Liverpool team. There has been renewed speculation that Fowler could quit Anfield, following Gerard Houllier's decision to omit him from the side that faced Dynamo Kiev on Wednesday. The Liverpool boss has been highly critical of Fowler in the past week, criticising his fitness, and has already had one high-profile bust-up with Fowler this season. But the striker has vowed to fight on, and refuses to contemplate an exit from the club he supported as a boy.

Fowler said: "I know what's been said about me lately and it's not particularly nice. I would be the first to admit it when I do not play well, but equally I would be the first to defend my attitude towards football in general, and Liverpool in particular."

Fowler also thanked the fans who gave him a standing ovation on Wednesday, when he came on as a substitute in the clash with Kiev. "The way they chanted for me and gave me an ovation was one of the highlights of my career."
