A dramatic ending at Turner's Cross saw Cork City come from behind and score two goals in the last ten minutes to snatch victory from Shamrock Rovers and deny them the outright lead at the top of the eircom Premier Division table. Cork made it four wins in a row in what has been a great footballing week for 18-year-old forward Colin Patrick O'Brien. Today he came on as a second-half substitute and scored his third goal in eight days to earn City victory with a brilliant volley in stoppage time.
The Hoops started well and scored after just five minutes when Cork keeper Michael Devine fumbled Sean Francis' cross into the net after centre-back Derek Coughlan failed to clear. However, Cork dominated the second-half and were rewarded for their efforts in the 80th minute when an Alan Carey cross was handled by Greg Costello and Kelvin Flanagan blasted home the spot-kick. It looked as if this game was heading for a draw until O'Brien popped up in added time to volley past Tony O'Dowd and send Cork's biggest crowd of the season home happy.
Meanwhile, in the eircom First Division this afternoon, Limerick FC overcame Dublin City in a five-goal thriller. Limerick were two goals up by the 73rd minute thanks to a brace from Ciaran Foley but two late strikes from Dublin City in the 82nd and 90th minutes from Tony Sheridan and Brendan Markey respectively seemed to secure at least a point for the visitors until Limerick snatched victory with a goal from Brian Donnellan in stoppage time.
