Bray Wanderers scored an inspired and badly needed 5-1 win over Longford Town at the Carlisle Grounds this evening. Bray, who have lost their last three eircom Premier Division games, got off to a dream start when Man of the Match Jason Byrne pounced in the first minute. However, Longford drew level in the 21st minute, when Eric Lavine drilled home from inside a crowded area, and the sides remained all square at the interval.
Bray assumed control in the second half and went in front in the 62nd minute when Byrne glanced home a Stephen Fox diagonal ball. Paul Keegan, back in the Bray colours, set up Barry O'Connor for goal number three in the 71st minute to give the home side a two goal cushion. Pat Devlin's men added their fourth twelve minutes from time, when Thomas Morgan finished sweetly from twenty yards following some good work by Jason Byrne.
Colm Tresson completed the scoring on a memorable night for the Bray fans when he headed home in the 89th minute, and the three points mean Bray move out of the bottom three, and above Longford and UCD, into eighth.
Meanwhile, in the First Division, Cobh Ramblers lost 4-0 to bottom of the table Athlone Town at St Coleman's Park. Goals from Andy Myler, Stephen Mullan, Keith Doyle and Alan McNevin gave the visitors an unlikely win over third placed Cobh, while Kilkenny City beat Limerick 4-1 at Buckley Park to move above tonight's opponents into fifth.
