Bohemians failed to go top of the eircom Premier Division table tonight after they were beaten 3-1 by Dundalk. There were also away wins for St Patrick's Athletic and Cork City over Monaghan United and Galway United respectively while Shelbourne and Derry City drew 1-1.
Not too many teams beat Bohemians these days, let alone come from behind to do it but that’s just what Dundalk did tonight to claim their first home win of the season. A dreadful mix-up between defender John White and keeper John Connolly allowed Glenn Crowe to head Bohs into the lead after 24 minutes and that’s how it remained at the break.
However, it was all about the home side in the second half as thanks to some poor defending from Bohs, they scored three times. After 54 minutes, James Heady tapped in from close range to equalised. They took the lead ten minutes later when an unmarked Ger Robinson flicked in a Jonathan Prizeman corner and after 81 minutes Prizeman floated a free over the Bohs defence and David Ward side-footed in from five yards.
At Tolka Park a truly dire scoreless first half was replaced by a much livelier second period. Three minutes after the re-start, Sean Hargan's speculative effort flew into the Shels' net. Suddenly, the home side woke up and they equalised in the 71st minute with a cheeky Owen Heary back flick. Shels held on despite Derry missing a penalty to ensure they had a share of the points.
Monaghan United took the lead against St Patrick's Athletic through James O'Callaghan but the Dubliners hit back through Martin Russell and Kieran Foley. Cork City beat Galway 2-1 thanks to goals from Colin O'Brien and Conor O'Grady. Galway got a late consolation strike through Derek O'Brien.
In the eircom First Division, Drogheda United thrashed Sligo Rovers 5-0 while Finn Harps beat Dublin City 1-0.
