Rangers ease past Motherwell to close gap on Celtic

Rangers closed the gap behind Scottish premier league leaders Celtic to four points today with a straightforward 3-0 home win over Motherwell. Celtic, who thrashed Dundee 4-0 away on Saturday, have 19 points to the 15 of their Glasgow rivals. Hibernian and Kilmarnock each have 11 after chalking up home victories today.

At Ibrox, Russell Latapy had a 25th-minute penalty saved by Mark Brown but made amends 12 minutes later by setting up Tore Andre Flo for Rangers' opener. The Glasgow side were generally on top and Ronald de Boer made it 2-0 20 minutes from time before Latapy's last-minute free kick completed the victory.

Hibernian ran riot at Easter Road, thrashing Dunfermline 5-1 with two goals for Craig Brewster, two for substitute Francisco Luna and one for Tom McManus. But their Edinburgh rivals Hearts lost 1-0 at Kilmarnock, with Craig Dargo's goal 12 minutes from time settling the match.
