Leeds go top with 2-0 win at Charlton

Leeds United moved to the top of the English Premiership as goals by Robbie Keane and Danny Mills, either side of a red card for Graham Stuart, gave them a convincing 2-0 away win over ten-man Charlton Athletic today. The victory takes Leeds to 11 points, one clear of Arsenal, who won 3-1 at Fulham on Saturday, and Bolton Wanderers, whose 1-0 home defeat against Southampton on Saturday knocked them off the top.

Meanwhile, Marcel Desailly scored deep into injury time to give Chelsea a 3-2 victory over Tottenham Hotspur in an action-packed London derby at White Hart Lane. Teddy Sheringham thought he had saved a point for Spurs when he scored his second of the match in the 90th minute after Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink had twice put Chelsea ahead.

Elsewhere, Ipswich Town and Blackburn Rovers remain in the bottom half of the table after drawing 1-1 at Portman Road. Northern Irish international Jim Magilton orchestrated the move that led to the opener, slipping in Finidi George whose shot rebounded off the bar only to fall Alun Armstrong, who volleyed in from eight yards. Matt Jensen levelled the scoring just after the break, beating the advancing Ipswich 'keeper Sereni before calmly lobbing the ball into the empty net. However, Town, who return to European action in the UEFA Cup will be without Armstrong, who was stretchered off with concussion after a collision with Ireland's Alan Mahon.

Aston Villa could only draw 0-0 with Sunderland at Villa Park. Kevin Kilbane and Niall Quinn both started for the visitors in an uneventful game that was marred by an alleged elbow by Kevin Phillips on Villa's Lee Hendrie.
