Capello linked with Man United job

Manchester United have offered Roma coach Fabio Capello the chance to succeed Sir Alex Ferguson, reports a Sunday Mirror exclusive. Capello is believed to have held secret talks with the Premiership champions who are thought to have offered him a four-year £2.8million-a-seasn deal.

Capello led AC Milan to the Serie A title for three successive years between 1992-94 and Champions League glory. He won La Liga in his first term at Spanish giants Real Madrid but returned to the San Siro a year later when he was sacked after a poor campaign. Capello, a target for Barcelona as well, then led Roma to Serie A success last season.

The Mirror also reports Ferguson hitting back at claims France goalkeeper Fabien Barthez will quit at the end of the season. Ferguson said: "It's nonsense."
