FIFA says Asian World Cup qualifiers to go ahead

FIFA, world soccer's ruling body, said today that this weekend's Asian qualifiers for the World Cup finals would go ahead as planned following the terror attacks in the United States.

"FIFA is of the opinion that despite the horrific events in New York and Washington all upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifying matches should be played providing that the safety of everyone involved can be guaranteed," it said in a statement.

The matches this weekend are Oman v United Arab Emirates and Iran v Bahrain on Friday, plus China v Uzbekistan and Thailand v Saudi Arabia on Saturday.
