English football will go ahead as scheduled this weekend despite UEFA's decision this morning to postpone the week's remaining Champions League and UEFA Cup fixtures. Although UEFA have decided to postpone these matches as a mark of respect to those who died in yesterday's tragic terrorist attack on New York City and Washington DC, a spokesperson for the Premiership confirmed that the weekend games will go ahead.
A spokesperson for the Football League said officials were currently meeting to discuss their next step but that he expected all Division One, Two and Three matches will go ahead also over the weekend.
However, other countries are now considering postponing their weekend soccer action. The German Football League are to make a decision later today regarding whether or not seven Bundesliga matches on Saturday and two on Sunday would take place.
Meanwhile, tonight's Worthington Cup and CIS Insurance Cup matches will go ahead as scheduled.
