Under-fire Leicester boss Peter Taylor has called on the club to make his position clear after continuing speculation over his future. Leicester registered their first point of the season on Saturday with a 1-1 home draw against Ipswich after losing their first two games 5-0 and 4-0 against Bolton and Arsenal.
But the result did little to ease the pressure on Taylor, whose side face a dangerous trip to Blackpool in the Worthington Cup on Monday. And the former England coach today urged the Leicester board to give him more time to turn things around after reports linking former West Ham manager Harry Redknapp to the Filbert Street club.
"The speculation can't be helpful for the football club," said Taylor. "It can't be right for players and supporters to keep reading there is going to be a change of manager. If it's going to happen it will happen but if not they should bat it back and say it's not going to happen."
Taylor, speaking on Sky Sports, added: "Nobody is really clear and I had a couple of phone calls from players asking what's going on. A statement would really clear things up. That's what the situation deserves."
Taylor has not been helped by injuries to key players but admitted he and the players have to shoulder the blame for their run of poor form.
"To lose the first game at home 5-0 to everybody's relegation favourites, on the back of last season's finish, that's really what has put us under pressure and I can only hold my hands up to that and the players do as well. We have caused the pressure ourselves but I would just like a little bit longer for us to get out of this position."
