Longford Town have eased their worries with a morale-boosting 1-0 victory over Derry City at Flancare Park this evening. The Midlanders deserved their first win since the opening day of the season in a scrappy yet entertaining encounter. There was plenty of goalmouth action, with the home side guilty of missing several glorious opportunities. Derry also spurned some good scoring chances, with Liam Coyle going close three times.
Longford's winner came in the 66th minute, after some clever work on the left flank from Keith O'Connor, who played a perfect cross into the path of Alan Kirby. The former Waterford striker made no mistake from the edge of the penalty area to seal the game for Stephen Kenny's men.
