Keller targets number one jersey

American goalkeeper Kasey Keller has said he will do everything he can to challenge Spurs first-choice keeper Neil Sullivan for the number one jersey. The United States international gave up the opportunity of regular first-team football with Turkish side Besiktas to return to the Premiership, and join in what he believes are exciting times for the White Hart Lane club.

"There's a big buzz in the Premiership right now - that has gained even in the two years I've been gone and there's definitely a big buzz about Spurs at the moment with the manager and Teddy Sheringham coming back. I don't think there's any doubt that this will be an exciting place to be over the next few years," he said.

Although Keller is all too aware that Sullivan, outstanding for Spurs last season, is Hoddle's first choice for the goalkeeping spot, he has no intention of keeping the subs' bench warm at White Hart Lane and insists he will provide Sullivan with a strong challenge for his position in the team.

"That's why I'm here - that's what they brought me in for. I have a lot of respect for Neil. I'm going to come here and do as well as I can. I know there's going to be a lot of competition here, and to some degree that's something I'm looking forward to. It's going to be an exciting time," he added.
