Dublin City suffered another comprehensive defeat at the hands of an English Premiership team tonight when they were beaten 5-0 by Ipswich Town. George Burley's men took complete control of this pre-season friendly at Tolka Park with Richard Naylor the star as he netted a hat-trick.
The 24-year-old striker opened the scoring in the 11th minute with a fine header after keeper Michael Dempsey had punched away an Alun Armstrong effort. He added a second in the 36th minute, once again scoring from an header, after a long-ball from John McGreal found him in the area. He completed his hat-trick just after the re-start when Dutch defender Fabian Wilnis set him up nicely and the striker headed home from close range.
Substitute Marcus Stewart made it 4-0 in the 68th minute after further good work from Wilnis and Burley's men rounded off a memorable night with a stunning strike from Jermaine Wright 30 yards out from goal with ten minutes to go.
Ipswich are scheduled to take on Bray Wanderers at the Carlisle Grounds on Thursday evening at 7:45pm in the second match of their two-game Irish tour. In tonight's other friendly, Home Farm were beaten 3-1 by the Leeds Under-19 team.
