eircom League clubs enjoyed several encouraging results tonight, with victories for Sligo Rovers, Finn Harps and Kilkenny City over opponents from other leagues. Newly promoted Monaghan United drew 1-1 with Irish League outfit Glenavon, while new Sligo boss Don O'Riordan masterminded an excellent 2-0 win for his new charges over fellow Irish League side Bangor at The Showgrounds.
Elsewhere, relegated Kilkenny beat Welsh side Llanelli 2-0 at Buckley Park, while Finn Harps beat Coleraine 2-1 at Finn Park. Shelbourne recorded a comprehensive 3-1 victory over Arklow in the night's other pre-season friendly of note.
