New Aston Villa signing Olof Mellberg will miss the rest of their Intertoto Cup campaign as he has not been registered in time. Villa signed the 23-year-old Swedish international from Spanish club Racing Santander last week for £5.7m, but the Spanish federation have not yet released his international clearance. This means that central defender Mellberg will have to sit out both legs of the semi-final against French outfit Stade Rennais as well as the final if Villa should get there. Villa face Stade Rennais in the first leg of the semi-final in France tomorrow evening.
