Bray Wanderers almost pulled off a memorable victory over Nationwide Division One team Coventry City at the Carlisle Grounds Sunday afternoon before Coventry drew level with a late spot-kick. Gordon Strachan's men were awarded the penalty in the 78th minute after Wanderers defender Colm Tresson handled the ball inside the area and John Eustace stepped up to convert successfully and save Coventry's blushes.
Earlier in the game, the home side took the lead when a misdirected back pass by Republic of Ireland midfielder Lee Carsley in the 21st minute was pounced on by Stephen Fox who ran from his own half of the pitch to fire home from 12 yards out.
Coventry pushed forward for the equaliser and created several chances that they should have converted with Jay Bothroyd going close twice. However, Coventry were without the servies of two of their top strikers, Julian Joachim and John Hartson, who both picked up ankle injuries in Coventry's previous wins over Dublin City and UCD.
Meanwhile, in today's other pre-season friendly, Waterford United beat Shamrock Rovers 2-0.
