Arsenal hope to complete the signing of Japanese midfield star Junichi Inamoto from Gamba Osaka by the start of next week. "There are still some details to be finalised, but the plan is for him to come over to England on July 22 and if everything goes to plan to announce him as an Arsenal player on July 23. But there is still a small question mark," said Wenger. The Japanese club said last week that they had reached a basic agreement with Arsenal for the 21-year-old midfielder. Inamoto would be Arsenal's fifth major signing of the summer after Sol Campbell, Richard Wright, Giovanni van Bronckhorst and Francis Jeffers.
Wenger said that he hoped England defender Campbell, who is nursing an ankle injury, would be fit enough to pull on an Arsenal shirt for the first time on their pre-season tour of Austria later this month. "I think he will feature out in Austria. We are looking at the second match, against Real Mallorca on July 30, as a possible debut for Sol," he said.
