Celtic fail in Hanstveit trial bid

Celtic have failed in an attempt to give Brann Bergen defender Erlend Hanstveit a week's trial at Parkhead. Martin O'Neill, who has been interested in the talented Norwegian for some time, had hoped to see Hanstveit in action for seven days, but both club and player refused any possibility of such a short trial period.

A spokesman for Brann Bergen confirmed: "Erlend was not motivated to go to Celtic for just one week and that does not suit us either. We received a fax last Friday asking if Erlend was available to go to the training complex today until Saturday. This request was turned down because we do not want to send our employees to training complexes."

However, Hanstveit has also been restricted by an ankle injury picked up during a game away in Norway on Sunday. But, speaking in the Scottish Daily Mail, the spokesman continued: "Celtic will have to come up with a firm initiative before they can sign him."
