Tottenham agree fee for Kelly

Alan Kelly could be on his way from Blackburn Rovers to Tottenham Hotspur following Ian Walker's sale to Leicester City yesterday. The Irish international goalkeeper, who is currently second choice to Newcastle United's Shay Given in Mick McCarthy's plans, is expected to come in as cover to Neil Sullivan at White Hart Lane.

The clubs have agreed a fee of £600,000 but Kelly will meet officials later this week to iron out personal terms. The former Preston North End and Sheffield United 'keeper has slipped to third choice at Ewood Park following Graeme Souness' signing of American stopper Brad Friedel from Liverpool.

Souness has been looking to offload one of his four first team 'keepers, with John Filan and Alan Miller also vying for a position between the posts. And although Kelly will begin the season as number two to Sullivan, Glenn Hoddle has assured the 32-year-old that he will have every chance of staking a claim for a regular place in the side as he bids to resurrect his international career.
