Chelsea's Italian goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini has had a minor operation after injuring his knee while walking his dog. "I don't know whether his dog is a Rottweiler or a Pekinese but Carlo was out walking it and it must have seen a rabbit or something because it gave him a sharp tug. Carlo felt his knee tweak. He thought he was alright but, a bit later, it was still giving him problems. He saw the doctor and the problem showed up on the scan, so he has had it sorted out," Chelsea assistant manager Gwyn Williams told the Sun newspaper.
Although 27-year-old Cudicini was Chelsea's first choice goalkeeper last season, his bad luck could help Mark Bosnich claim a place in the side for the start of the new campaign at home to Newcastle United on August 19. Bosnich was signed from Manchester United midway through last season but has yet to make his first team debut. The Chelsea players have been in Italy this week for their pre-season training camp.
