Viduka agrees to sign five-year contract

Leeds United striker Mark Viduka has agreed to sign a five-year contract with the club, keeping him at Elland Road until 2006. Although Viduka has yet to put pen to paper, Leeds chairman Peter Risdale has said the Australian has given him his word that he will sign the deal next week. Speculation has linked Viduka with moves to Real Madrid, AC Milan and Inter Milan since the season ended but the 25-year-old intends on being a major part of David O'Leary's plans for next season.

"There was always going to be interest from the continent given his performances last season," said Risdale on the club's official website. "But we always felt that Mark was happy here. As long as we were seen to be treating him fairly, he was happy to stay. He will put pen to paper on the contract next week, but I have spoken to him personally and he has assured me the deal is done and he is happy for me to make that public."
