Carr refuses to rule out Barca move

Republic of Ireland full-back Stephen Carr has refused to rule out a move to Spanish giants Barcelona. Carr did sign an improved contract with current club Tottenham Hotspur last season and pledged his future to the club with the arrival of new boss Glenn Hoddle. However, the Dublin-born player travelled to Spain over the weekend with Campbell at the expense of the Catalan club to watch them secure a Champions League spot with a late 3-2 victory over Valencia.

Although Barcelona have not yet made an official bid for the international, rated at about £10 million, Carr's agent Robert Segal admitted today that while Carr is very happy in North London, he would not dismiss the opportunity of playing for one of Europe's biggest clubs.

"Steve is very happy at Spurs but if a club like Barcelona were to make an official approach, then he would think very seriously about it," said Segal. However, while the Spurs fans are resigned to losing their captain to either Barcelona or Arsenal, the loss of Carr, the fans' player of the year and one of the most popular members of the Spurs squad, would not be welcomed by the Spurs faithful.
