Taylor looks to Wise for wisdom

Leicester boss Peter Taylor has said he hopes new signing Dennis Wise will produce the same leadership qualties on the field for the Foxes as soccer's other golden oldies did for their respective clubs last season. Comparing Wise to the likes of Liverpool's Gary McAllister and former United striker Teddy Sheringham, now back at Spurs, Taylor said he felt Wise could bring the necessary experience and poise to his team that was lacking in earnest towards the end of last season, particularly following the departure of Neil Lennon last November.

Although Wise's transfer has not yet gone through, the deal is all but done and will be formally completed later this week after the player undergos a medical. He will then be officially unveiled at a press conference next week.

"I have felt that I could do with the type of player that Dennis is and I have needed a bit of a leader out there on the pitch at times," Taylor explained to PA Sport. "There were times with us last season when maybe there weren't enough leaders out on the pitch. Dennis would be a good example to people."

"I know he's had his disciplinary problems at times but he is a winner and will be a great asset. He's also still hungry to do well. The age factor was not a concern to me and you only have to look at how well people like Teddy Sheringham, Gary McAllister and Stuart Pearce have done well into their mid to late 30s," he added.
