Double winner Collins to leave Bohs

Roddy Collins appears to have left Bohemians after their most successful season in years. Bohs said in a statement on their website that Collins has refused to commit himself to the club, despite the offer of a two-year contract. The statement said that Collins missed a May 19 meeting to discuss his plans, but he did not contact the Club President nor Secretary afterwards and left on holiday on May 21. Bohs have concluded that Collins wishes to leave the club and have started to look for a new manager to arrive in time for their first Champions League game on July 11.

Collins hinted at leaving Bohs just hours after the club dramatically clinched their first League title since 1978, so today's development is not completely out of the blue. "They are going to have to come up with something attractive, not for me financially but for the overall situation of the club.

"If it continues the way it has, I don't want to be a part of it. I could give you a list, it's horrendous. It's a professional club, run off the pitch, and this is not being disrespectful to anybody, by people who don't know what to do. It's not a criticism, just a fact of life," he said after the League win. Collins made no secret of his application for the Oxford United job and he has also been linked with Barnet.

The club has paid tribute to Collins, whose "Celtic Warrior" brother Steve is former super-middleweight boxing world champion. "Much of this success is due to the players and the managerial skills of Roddy Collins and his backroom staff, and we take this opportunity to congratulate and thank them most sincerely," they said in the statement.

"We wish him the very best in the future, and hope that he realises his dream to manage a team in England or elsewhere," they added.
