Liverpool striker Michael Owen sat out training with the English team today as a precautionary measure but the management team are confident he will be fit to face the Greeks. Owen has been suffering with a stiff back and there is some concern that the injury is related to his past hamstring problems. However, England assistant coach Sammy Lee feels there is nothing to worry about.
"We sat down and just decided that, because Michael's back was still a little bit stiff, we didn't want him to run today. Because of the time we have together here before the game next Wednesday, we decided to give him another rest and just do some stretches. He'll be looking forward to training with everyone tomorrow," said Lee.
"It's not a case of wrapping him in cotton wool. It's just energy management. There are certain times to push players and certain times to ease off them. We have got a few days here so we thought it would be better to keep him out. I'm not a physio but I can't see him being ruled out of the game against Greece," he added.
