Wenger looks to the future

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has already set his sights on next season after his club last night wrapped up second spot in the Premiership with a 0-0 draw away to Newcastle. The Gunners have made sure of automatic qualification to next year's Champions League by finishing second-best to Manchester United once again but Wenger is not too upset by finishing the season trophy-less, despite reaching the Champions League quarter-finals and the FA Cup final.

"It's frustrating but as well, I think compared to the other teams we fight against like Leeds and the quality of the teams we have in the Premier League like Liverpool, like Chelsea, it's as well a good performance. Not good enough, but good. We lost last year (Emmanuel) Petit and (Marc) Overmars, and that was of course a big handicap at the start of the season. We bought some new players who had to adapt to the league and to grow, and I will say that overall, this team has grown together and became better and better this season," he said.

"Since January 1, this team has lost two championship games. That's why I believe, with all the cup games we played, plus the Champions League games, the team has become better and better, and it's a good base to start again next season," he added.
