Bohemians have been crowned eircom Premier Division champions following their emphatic 5-0 win over Kilkenny City and Shelbourne's 1-0 defeat at home to Cork City. Roddy Collins' men triumphed on the final day of what has been an enthralling season as they pipped Dublin rivals Shels, who had led for more than six months, at the final post.

Victory for defending champions Shelbourne would have guaranteed a second success for Dermot Keely, but Cork City, chasing a UEFA Cup spot themselves, hadn't read the script. Ollie Cahill hit the crucial goal on the stroke of half-time with an excellently worked goal, and despite sustained Shels pressure after the interval, City held on to leave Bohs two points clear at the top of the table following their rout of relegated Kilkenny.

Goals from Dave Morrison, Glenn Crowe (2), Trevor Molloy and Mark Rutherford sealed an expected victory for The Gypsies to crown a memorable season for all at Dalymount Park. Elsewhere, Finn Harps have been relegated despite a 2-1 win over Longford Town, UCD's 2-1 victory over Galway United securing the promotion/play-off place for the Students.

Elsewhere, Bray Wanderers recorded a comfortable 4-1 win over St Patrick's Athletic at The Carlisle Grounds thanks to goals from Mick Doohan(2), Jason Byrne and Colm Tresson. Finally, Derry City beat Shamrock Rovers 3-2 at The Morton Stadium in a clash that affected neither promotion or relegation matters.
