Italian Serie A side Juventus have confirmed that their Dutch international midfielder Edgar Davids has failed a drug test. The anti-doping test was taken after the club's game against Udinese on March 4 and Juve were informed by the Italian Olympic Committee (CONI) that the result was non-negative. Although CONI have not revealed what substance was found in the sample, speculation is rife that it was nandrolone.
Following revealations over the weekend that a Serie A player had failed a drug test, the newspapers in Italy named Davids as the player at the centre of the scandal. However, Juve did not confirm the rumour until today.
This latest shock revelation follows the news that Lazio defender Fernando Couto has failed a second drug test, which showed signs of excess nandrolone in his system. (PA)
