Missing Nyarko facing fine

Everton are set to impose a heavy fine on their Ghanaian international Alex Nyarko - but only if they can locate the missing midfielder. Nyarko failed to show up for training yesterday or today following an incident on Saturday during Everton's 4-1 defeat to Arsenal at Highbury, when an angry Everton fan confronted him on the pitch, offering to swap shirts. Nyarko immediately asked the Everton bench to substitute him following the incident and announced his retirement afterwards before disappearing.

It has been reported that the former Lens star may have left the country but Everton confirmed they have no idea where Nyarko has gone. A spokesperson for Everton said the club has decided to give the player a further 24 hours to contact them but if he fails to do so, he faces a fine. "He is already in breach of contract for not attending training. He could face having his wages stopped and a club fine," said Ian Ross.

"We are currently trying to make contact with Alex in order to arrange a meeting with him. If this cannot be achieved within the next two or three days the club would have to consider some form of disciplinary action," he added. It is expected that, one way or another, Nyarko will be sold by Everton in the summer. (PA)
