Keane on short list for PFA Award

Republic of Ireland and Manchester United captain Roy Keane has been included on the short-list for this year's Professional Footballers' Association Player of the Year award. Also included in the list of six players are Keane's team-mates Ryan Giggs and Football Writers' Footballer of the Year Teddy Sheringham, along with Arsenal's Thierry Henry, Liverpool striker Emile Heskey and Ipswich's Marcus Stewart.

There was no place for United's David Beckham, who finished as runner-up to Sheringham in the Football Writers' award, or Arsenal's Patrick Vieira, who came third.

Meanwhile, the short-list for the PFA Young Player of the Year Award has also been announced. Emile Heskey features once again along with team-mate Steven Gerrard, Manchester United's Wes Brown, West Ham's Michael Carrick and Joe Cole, and Leeds striker Alan Smith. Both awards will be presented at a special awards dinner on April 29, when each Divisional team of the year will also be revealed.
