Leeds striker set to sign new deal

Leeds striker Alan Smith is on the brink of signing his new five-year deal to end speculation about his future. This new contract, which has been on the table since December, will see Smith’s current weekly pay triple to £12,000.

Smith recently revealed that he has been in no hurry to put pen-to-paper on the contract. Despite only signing his previous deal in the summer of 1999, Smith has been rewarded for his form this season, having scored 12 goals - the most priceless having been in Europe against 1860 Munich, Lazio and Anderlecht.
