Lennon to consider future with Northern Ireland

Neil Lennon is considering his international future with Northern Ireland after being booed during Northern Ireland's 4-0 defeat against Norway last night. Manager Sammy McIlroy brought Lennon off at half-time because he had agreed with Celtic that he would only play 45 minutes and the 29-year-old left the ground before the end of the game.

Lennon will sit down and discuss his international future with his family, who still live in his home town of Lurgan, before he decides whether or not to play for Northern Ireland again.

However, Lennon appreciated the backing of the majority of the fans and he said: “In the main it was brilliant. I thought a lot of people got behind me. I was very touched by the support. There's always a significant minority in any walk of life who will always make things difficult for people, but I know there are a lot more good people than bad people in this country.”

“As I said, they were brilliant for me,” Lennon said in an interview with PA. “The build-up was difficult and it's bad enough trying to prepare yourself for an international match without the baggage that I've had over the last few days. So I would prefer not to go through something like that again if possible.”

“I hope to be back,” he added. “I'll go back and talk things over with my club and my family and we'll take things from there.” (PA)
