Mick rules Morrison out

Mick McCarthy has ruled Clinton Morrison out of his plans for the forthcoming friendly international with Denmark at Landsdowne Road. The manager's decision comes in the wake of the Crystal Palace forward's declaration that he would be interested in representing the country of his grandmother.

The in-form Palace striker has, however, been touted as a potential England star after his recent displays in the FA and Worthington Cups, while he has also spearheaded Palace's return to form in the First Division. He also qualifies to play for Jamaica, but following his reluctance to confirm which nation he would like to play for, McCarthy believes it is best not to force the matter.

McCarthy explained: "I spoke to Clinton's agent last night and informed him that I would not be selecting him for the February 28th friendly against Denmark. That decision has been taken by me, because I don't think he is in the right frame of mind right now to choose his international future."

The Irish manager has, however, refused to rule out the possibility of a call up for the 21-year-old later in the season, should he pledge his allegiance to the green of Ireland. He confirmed: "I have not closed the door on Clinton playing for us, but that's a question for another day."
