Viduka wins Oceania Footballer of the Year Award

Leeds United striker Mark Viduka has won the Oceania Footballer of the Year Award, the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) announced. Viduka, 25, polled 118 votes, 14 ahead of Leeds teammate and last year's winner, Harry Kewell. Simon Elliott from New Zealand and Richard Iwai of Vanuatu tied for third on 27 votes.

Viduka, who joined Leeds from Scottish club Celtic last July, led the English premier league scoring table at the end of last year with 12 goals. He was the talk of the league in November after scoring all four in a 4-3 win over Liverpool.

However, Leeds were disappointed when Viduka missed the early part of the season, including the European Champions League, by representing Australia at the Sydney Olympics.

Kewell, 22, a former premier league Young Player of the Year, missed the Games because of an Achilles tendon injury but is now back with the Yorkshire club.
