Morrison could end striking worries

The Republic’s search for a long-term replacement for Niall Quinn may have come to an end, with Mick McCarthy’s announcement that he is to give Crystal Palace hot shot Clinton Morrison his first international call-up. McCarthy has admitted he is excited about Morrison’s interest in declaring for Ireland, birthplace of his grandmother, and says he will include him in the squad for February's friendly match against Denmark.

McCarthy, who saw the 21-year-old score his 17th goal of the season in Wednesday night's FA Cup match against Sunderland, said he will be speaking with Morrison shortly. McCarthy confirmed that Morrison's name will be on the squad sheet when it is announced a week before the game, which is on February 28th at Lansdowne Road.
