Fulham captain Chris Coleman has sustained serious leg injuries in a car crash. The accident occurred in Surrey last night but no other vehicles were involved. It is believed his car broke through a metal fence by the side of the road and then hit a tree. The 30-year-old Welsh international was then trapped in his Jaguar car for over an hour while the emergency servies attempted to set him free from the wreck. He sustained a number of breaks to his right leg between the knee and ankle.
Managing director Michael Fiddy tonight released a statement clarifying the situation: "Chris was travelling home and lost control of his vehicle due to the slippery conditions caused by recent heavy rains and snow in his area. We have been informed that Chris has sustained a fracture of the right tibia and fibula and a fracture of the right ankle, for which he received surgery last night to realign and repair. He received no other injuries and his general condition is good.
"It is confirmed, however, that he will certainly miss the rest of the season. Chris is, as ever, in a composed state and despite the great trauma he has been through is showing great resilience. The chairman (Mohamed Al Fayed) has assured Chris that all will be done by the club to look after him during this difficult time and we all wish him well for a swift recovery," he added.
