Soccer: Campbell pledges future to Tottenham

Sol Campbell has given Tottenham Hotspur fans the New Year message they all wanted to hear. The Spurs skipper has ended speculation that he was leaving White Hart Lane at the end of the season on a free transfer by declaring – "I'm going nowhere."

Campbell was free to negotiate with clubs from today under the Bosman Ruling and Manchester United were said to be favourites to sign the England defender.

But the 26-year-old continued: "I want to play for Tottenham - that's it. I've been here for so long and there's no reason to think I would want to leave. For me to do well at this club would mean everything. I play for Spurs with a passion and desire, and it hurts me when we lose."

Tottenham manager George Graham has also stated his aim to stay with the club and finish the job he started. After the 3-0 defeat at Ipswich, he denied speculation that he was negotiating a deal with new owners Enic.

Graham said: "I don't know what plans the new owners have. But I want to stay the manager and I want to be a successful one. I've never been someone who gives up on a job halfway through. I have always been determined to see things through to the end.

"People can link whoever they want with my job but as far as I am concerned I am still Spurs manager and nothing is going to change."
