Soccer: Japanese star targets United move

Roma's Japanese star Hidetoshi Nakata has issued a `come and get me' plea to Manchester United. The 23-year-old midfielder, who costs the Italian giants £14million, said: “Rome is a wonderful place, but it is suffocating me. I have no privacy and I need a change of country. I know Roma wouldn't sell me to a rival club in Serie A, so I must look abroad. I'd like to play in England and where better than a club that can win trophies - a club like Manchester United. They're a great team and I know I could help them,” he told The Daily Star.

Nakata is a Far Eastern idol who currently earns £3.5million alone out of personal sponsorship deals. United had previously expressed an interest in the Japanese star before his £14million move to Roma. Signing Nakata – often billed the Japanese David Beckham – could mean huge marketing potential in the Far East where United already have a massive fan base.
