Wimbledon striker John Hartson is hoping to make it fourth time lucky with a big-money switch to Celtic. Proposed moves to Rangers, Tottenham and Charlton have fallen through due to fears over the 25-year-old's fitness. But the Welsh international has told Parkhead boss Martin O'Neill he would be getting a player approaching his peak if a deal can be put together.
Hartson told The Sun today: “Chris Sutton has had injuries and they are looking to add to the squad. Celtic have made an offer and the whole thing is now out of my hands. All I have ever wanted to do is play football at the highest level I can. It's true I am not getting any younger, but I am approaching my peak in a football sense.”
The bustling former Arsenal and West Ham striker, whose weight problems have been a major hindrance to his career, said his weight concerns were now behind him. He insisted: “My weight is under control. I am a big guy and it does take some controlling. But it helps when you are injury-free, which I am. I just hope everything can be sorted out soon. I think I am playing well and I feel that a target of 25 goals a season is not beyond me at any standard.”
