Soccer: Irish Internationals given Probation

Irish internationals Phil Babb and Mark Kennedy have been given the Probation Act and have walked free from the Dublin District Court after pleading guilty to breach of the peace, being drunk and disorderly and criminal damage to a garda's car.

The Probation Act means that though they have no criminal record, the offence will be taken into account should they commit further offences. They donated £5,000 to the ISPCC.

Judge William Hamill said a conviction for the two men would far outweigh the consequences of their actions. He said they had been dealt with by the authorities in the full glare of the media. Afterwards the Chief Executive of Manchester City, Christopher Bird said the incident was "regrettable".
