Soccer: Sutton and Larsson keep Celtic top

Goals by Chris Sutton and Henrik Larsson earned Scottish Premier League leaders Celtic a 2-0 win over St. Mirren, keeping them two points clear at the top.

Sutton headed his seventh goal of the season in the 33rd minute after a period of sustained pressure and Swedish international Larsson sealed victory for Celtic with an 85th minute free kick.

Nearest challengers Hibernian made it five league wins in a row with a 1-0 defeat of champions Rangers, David Zitelli scoring after 23 minutes. Rangers' misery was compounded by Andrei Kanchelskis's sending-off in the 80th minute.

Celtic, unbeaten in 10 premier league starts, now have 28 points, two more than Hibs, who have played one game more. Elsewhere in Scotland, Claudio Caniggia marked his Dundee debut with a goal in the final minute as his new side recorded a 2-0 victory away to Aberdeen, while Hearts scored a 4-0 win over struggling Dundee United at Tannadice Park. Kilmarnock were 2-1 winners over Dunfermline thanks to a late strike by Gary Holt, while Motherwell were convincing 4-0 winners over St. Johnstone.
