Soccer: Petit wants Champions league success

Emmanuel Petit fired a parting shot at Arsenal as he put pen to paper on his lucrative four-year deal with Barcelona. Petit, 29 formally completed his switch to the Spanish giants last night as part of the £30million-move that took him and Marc Overmars from Highbury to the Nou Camp. He then claimed that he had to leave the north London side in order to fulfil his ambition of winning the Champions League.

“I want to win the European Cup, and to do that I have more chance of doing that here,” said Petit, whose new contract is believed to be worth around £35,000 a week. The French midfielder, who may play in defence for Barca, added, “There is the ambition and talent at Arsenal to win the European Cup, but they are still at the apprenticeship stage as far as that competition is concerned.
