Belgian international defender Joos Valgaeren was today unveiled as Celtic manager Martin O'Neill's second signing for the club after a £3.8million move from Dutch outfit Roda JC. The 24-year-old passed his medical without any problems and put pen to paper on a five-year contract.
He now looks set to make his debut in their Premier League opener at Dundee United on Sunday having trained with his new team-mates this morning. The former Mechelen star's arrival takes O'Neill's spending this summer to £9.8million after the £6million capture of England striker Chris Sutton from Chelsea earlier this month. Valgaeren said, “I am very pleased to have completed my transfer to Celtic Football Club and I am looking forward to joining Martin O'Neill and the quality players at the club.”
His arrival gives Celtic a massive boost on the eve of the new season after O'Neill admitted his defence was having major communication problems during the 4-2 defeat by Bordeaux.
