Everton boss Walter Smith has revealed that Manchester United are keen to snatch want-away Nick Barmby from under the nose of arch-rivals Liverpool. Barmby has openly expressed his desire for a move to Anfield, but Smith insists that a fee must be agreed before such a switch can take place.
He said, "There has not been any contact from Liverpool since last week, but Alex Ferguson has called, he told me he was interested in Nick Barmby and wanted to be kept informed." Liverpool are believed to have already had a £3.5 million bid turned down.
