Soccer: Cunningham and Kinsella add to absentees

Mick McCarthy's Republic of Ireland squad for the close of season internationals has been further hit today by the withdrawal of Kenny Cunningham and Mark Kinsella. Cunningham travelled to Dublin on Saturday, but after being plagued by groin problems throughout the final weeks of the Premiership season, was today forced to admit defeat in his fitness battle. The extent of his injury is expected to result in an operation in the coming week.

Meanwhile, Kinsella's withdrawal was far less expected and he is now out of Tuesday's home international with Scotland as well as the US Cup Tour. Kinsella has failed to recover from a knee injury.
