It was heartbreak for the Gunners as they lost on penalties to Galatasaray in the UEFA Cup Final in Copenhagen. Penalty misses fom both substitute Davor Suker and the Frenchman Patrick Vieira cost the London side dear when all the Turkish marksmen where accurate from the spot. It was finally down to, of all people, the ex-Spurs player, Gheorge Popescu whose penalty ended the dream for Arsene Wenger's men.
It was an even match the whole way through with both sides squandering chances to find the net, the best of which fell to Martin Keown, who slammed high after a Thierry Henry cross. Gala were slightly unfortunate to have Hagi sent-off when involved in a tussle with Tony Adams, who was lucky to stay on the pitch.
Galatasaray take the UEFA Cup home with them after winning the penalty shoot out 4-1.
