After today's full programme of fixtures Wimbledon have been relegated to the Nationwide Division One, along with Sheffield Wednesday and Watford, whilst Leeds Utd have qualified for the Champions League and Liverpool go into the UEFA Cup.
It was a disasterous day for the 'Crazy Gang' as fellow relegation strugglers Bradford City beat Champions League hopefuls Liverpool one-nil. Caretaker boss Terry Burton's Wimbledon side were soundly beaten by Southampton 2-0, and never looked like winning the fixture. Bradford's season ended with a flourish as they deservedly beat Gerard Houillier's Liverpool by a goal to nil, thus burying the Merseysiders hopes of playing in next season's Champions League. Leeds Utd's goalless draw at West Ham proved meaningless as the Reds defeat guaranteed David O'Leary's side a Champions League spot.
Elsewhere, Teddy Sheringham scored Manchester Utd's one hundredth goal of the year, as the Champions beat next week's FA Cup finalists Aston Villa 1-0 at Villa Park. Chelsea left it all too late in the season as they walloped Derby 4-0 and Everton lost their last game 2-0 at home to Middlesboro. Alan Shearer scored the 300th goal of his career as Newcastle Utd beat Arsenal 4-2, and already relegated Sheffield Wed thumped Leicester 4-0, Irishman Alan Quinn scoring the first goal. Londoners Spurs beat Sunderland 3-1 and relegated Watford beat Coventry City 1-0.
