Soccer: Shelbourne through to Cup Final

Shelbourne are through to this year's FAI Cup Final having beaten Galway United by two second half goals last night. The first goal came when James Keddy benefited by a defensive error by Galway, while the second was created by Richie Baker, whose ball to his brother Dessie sealed Shelbourne's victory. A huge crowd watched the game at Terryland Park.

Shelbourne manager, Dermot Keely was delighted with his men. "This means the season goes right to the end...we've a small chance of a double now. We got a goal and we were very professional from then on". He was bullish when queried on his chances of lifting the cup. "I've never lost a cup final", he said. Galway boss Don O'Riordan pointed to his team's errors as the root of the result, "You can't defend like that against a team like Shelbourne. We didn’t deserve to win it." The scene is now set for a cracking final against either Bohemians or Bray Wanderers.

In the Eircom League, St Patrick's Athletic and Waterford Utd drew 0-0, St Francis were goalless against Kilkenny City who won with 4 goals, from Brian Jordan on 31 minutes and 58 minutes, Trevor Vaughan on 81 minutes and Mark Mearns finishing off the rout on 90 minutes. Limerick FC beat Monaghan Utd 2-0 with goals from White and McCarthy.
