Stephen McPhail is convinced Leeds will reach the final of this season's UEFA Cup - after first completing the double on Czech side Slavia Prague. Leeds are on the brink of reaching the last four following their 3-0 quarter-final first-leg victory at Elland Road last week, and are now out to finish their demolition job.
Midfielder McPhail, who has been one of the inspirations of the season, said, "You've got to fancy us for that away goal so hopefully it will be another memorable night. Beyond that there's no reason why we can't go all the way to the final because whoever we get in the semis we'll be up for it. It'll be make or break. Getting through would make up for the disappointment of when we went out to Aston Villa in the FA Cup. We know we didn't play well in that match and the gaffer let us know about it."
Meanwhile, Arsenal's unpredictable genius Kanu has also plumped for UEFA Cup glory - but over Champions League achievement! Just three games away from the final of the UEFA Cup, the suspicion remains that Arsenal would choose a top-three Premiership finish for a place in the Champions League again next season over actually winning Europe's second-tier knockout trophy.
However, Nigerian star Kanu is not so sure. Before he stepped on the plane taking Arsenal this afternoon to their quarter-final second leg against Werder Bremen in Germany tomorrow night, he admitted, "We feel we have to win something for the fans this season, and the UEFA Cup is still one of the best trophies there is."
Boss Arsene Wenger has blamed the team's tiring treks across the continent - tomorrow will be their 12th tie in Europe this season - for Arsenal's slip in the domestic title race.
