Manchester United eased to a goalless draw in Valencia which ensured the reigning European champions topped Group B last night. Valencia also qualified for the Champions League quarter-finals, the point enough to give them second place, which means Fiorentina are out. Both sides had good chances in the first half with the width of the post saving United initially before an unmarked Solskjaer failed to head home Fortune's cross. Angloma had a shot ricochet off the upright in the second half but Sheringham also had a header saved by the keeper so all in all it was a fair result. Tonight Chelsea hope to emulate United when they take on Lazio in Group D.
The other Group B game also finished in a draw last night, Fiorentina and
Bordeaux finishing 3 goals apiece while in Group A FC PORTO defeated Hertha Berlin 1-0 while Barcelona were 2-1 winners over Sparta Prague. Barcelona and Porto are both through to the quarter-finals.
A total of 20,000 tickets for the Champions League final will go on sale to the general public from Friday. A new website - www.clubfinals.uefa.com – will enable supporters to buy tickets via the internet for the final which takes place on May 24 in the Stade de France.
